GEAR UP!-Holiday flight tips!

TIP...TIP....TIP...

It's time to start searching your flights now!

Whether your holiday will look like this...

or this...

Not kidding...

*****DO THIS NOW! Start putting on an airfare watch, alerts and trackers! (everything!) Think about the flights you think you will want for the holidays.

There are many different search engines to track flights (Kayak, Skyscanner, Airfarewatchdog and others). Google Flights is the best and most specific search engine I have found. The only thing I don't like is that it will NOT include Southwest. You will have to go to their website and do it separately.

There are so many facets to Google Flights. In this blog post I will go over how to set up an alert.

Start Here:

1. Put in your departure and arrival cities. Enter the estimated dates.

2. Explore the 3 buttons of “date grid”, “price graph”, and "nearby airports”. They are each very helpful and pretty self explanatory. I just learned how to use the "Nearby airport". It will show you a different price if you are willing to drive to a nearby airport. It even tells you how long it will take to drive there (google maps)! I LOVE GOOGLE!

3. Google also has a price meter that indicates where the flight you are searching falls in the price trends.

4. Click on the various buttons Bags/stops/airlines/etc. Change the things that matter to you.

5. Be sure to click on the “more” button at the end of that row. You will find the "flight duration". If you don’t want the overnight flights or the 16 + hour flights make sure to indicate that there (shown in the blue circle).

If you are willing to book on different airlines to complete your trip indicate it there (shown in the red circle).

6. Next, click on the left side “Track prices”. You will receive email updates on your flight when the price changes.

and finally last but not least #7. Search another flight for a different child coming home for the holidays! Track as many flights as you want!
